About
I am a Ceramicist based in South Wales. Much of my inspiration comes from surfing and exploring the coast where I live. Each piece I make is completely unique, shaped by hand, place, and experience. I love hand-building my pieces using coiling, slab building or pinching techniques allowing texture and imperfection to speak.
When I’m making, I draw on feelings and memories of my favourite places: surfing Rhossili at sunset, the jagged shape of the cliffs at Mewslade, the ever-changing colours of the sea, the light at different times of day and the way a landscape can sometimes speak to you — these all shape my work.
I’m often drawn back to favourite themes, reinterpreting them in new forms that reflect a particular moment, memory, or coastal encounter. My ceramics are a response to those fleeting moments... part story, part artifact.
My journey with clay began with a weekly evening class. I never expected it would lead to such a fulfilling path. Buying my first kiln was a milestone and I still remember the thrill of the first bisque firing... and from there, my obsession with clay has grown and become a part of daily life I may not make every day but it's always there inside thinking on the next piece.
Strider Ceramics is about my connection to the landscape and the flora and fauna that inhabit it, the process of making and the quiet joy I find in making handmade everyday objects. I hope my work brings a bit of that feeling into your hands and home.
